Abi Clarke
In the olden
days, i.e. the early 2020s, comedians could have expected to spend years
gigging up and down the UK as stand-ups before being invited onto a television
panel show and then selling out an arena tour. But, right now, it's not as
simple. Comedy is one type of art that has been able remain performed in front
of an audience of live. However, we'll not have arena tours any time coming.
One comedian from Bristol has managed to connect with a global audience via
social media lockdown. Abi Clarke didn't set out to become a global internet
star. Abi, who is 24 is from Henbury, and began creating videos online "to
create a network of like-minded people who could be interested in my standup
comedy." "I had been performing frequently in Devon to males aged 50
and older who were not as enthusiastic about my Love Island Sims and Twilight
references, so I decided to get online and find other young women who
appreciate my stand-up comedy." Abi, who lives in Henbury, with her parents,
continues to post her videos on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. She draws
inspiration from a variety of sources, such as conversations with strangers,
the chatroom, and writing down her thoughts on her smartphone.
