Moss (born February 13th 1977) is a former American football player. He was a
player for the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New
England Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans) as well as the San
Francisco 49ers in the National Football League. Along with Jerry Rice, he is
widely regarded as being the greatest wide receiver to ever play. Moss holds
the NFL single-year touchdown record (23 in 2007) and the rookie NFL single
season touchdown reception record (17 in 1998). He is as the second highest on
the NFL all-time regular season touchdown list with 156. Moss was well known
for his ability to secure catch contests and the term "mossed" has
entered football's language. Following football, he began working for ESPN as
an analyst for its studio Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown
programs. Moss was born in Rand, West Virginia. Moss was a student at DuPont
High School. This was one of the two schools that later amalgamated to form
Riverside High School. He excelled in basketball, football and baseball. Randy
was also on the school's debate team. Moss helped lead the DuPont Panthers
football team to two consecutive state championships in 1992 and 1993. His star
position was wide receiver. But he also played free safety, punted kickoffs,
and was the team’s punter and kicker. He was awarded the Kennedy Award in 1994
as West Virginia's Football Player of Year. Parade magazine named him to their
annual All-American high school football team in 1995. in 2009, named him among
the top 50 football players from high school ever.
